There are things you can do to maintain good kidney health! Following a low salt diet, with restriction of sodium to 2000 mg per day, decreases the risk of cardiovascular disease. You should also avoid or minimize use of certain medications which are known to cause kidney dysfunction. These include medications known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This includes but is not limited to ibuprofen and/or naproxen. Maintaining good oral hydration is also important. Avoiding tobacco products and managing cholesterol also contribute to good kidney health. You should also maintain a healthy weight and engage in moderate intensity exercise at least 3-4 times a week. All of these practices will ensure proper kidney health.
