Dr. Samir Shabshab

Dr. Samir Shabshab

Dr. Samir (Sam) Shabshab was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Economics at the American University of Beirut and his medical degree from the prestigious American University of Beirut Medical School. Dr. Shabshab completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus in Baltimore, where he also served as the chief resident. He later completed his training in nephrology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

Dr. Shabshab is board certified in both internal medicine and nephrology. After serving as an attending physician in New Jersey, Dr. Shabshab relocated to the Washington, D.C., area to join Metropolitan Nephrology Associates in 1995. He is currently a senior partner.

Dr. Shabshab has served as the Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Mount Vernon Hospital. He has been recognized numerous times in the listing of “Top Doctors” in Washingtonian magazine. Dr. Shabshab is a Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology.

With his extensive experience as a clinical nephrologist since 1992, Dr. Shabshab is well versed in all aspects of the specialty. He has a particular interest in the care of kidney transplant patients, as well as in critical care nephrology. Dr. Shabshab is also a firm advocate for home dialysis therapies.

Dr. Shabshab became a U.S. citizen in 1995. In addition to English, he speaks fluent Arabic. He and his wife reside in Northern Virginia, where they have enjoyed raising three children.
